The Silver Libertad is the official silver bullion coin of Mexico. First produced in 1982, the Libertad’s design is based on the Centenario gold coin that was struck from 1921 to 1947. Mexican Silver Libertads are older than both Canadian Silver Maple Leafs and American Silver Eagles. But unlike their northern counterparts, they are produced in eight different weights and with much lower mintage numbers, making them some of the most versatile and collectible silver bullion coins on the market. The 5 oz Silver Libertad coin is an excellent way to invest in a substantial amount of collectible, low-mintage bullion from one of the oldest and renowned sovereign mints in the world. The broader surface area of the 5 oz weight emphasizes its striking design and is beautiful to behold in hand. Enhance your portfolio by purchasing a 5 oz Silver Libertad today! Highlights
ObverseThe reverse features the Victory Angel, also known as the Mexican Angel of Independence. She stands on the Mexican Independence Victory column with one arm outstretched, wings spread wide, and garments billowing around her. She is seen standing between two volcanoes known as Popocatepeti and Iztaccuhuati, named after a pair of lovers from pre-Columbian lore. Inscriptions also include the weight, purity, and year of issue. ReverseThe Silver Libertad’s reverse showcases Mexico’s national seal, the Mexican Coat of Arms. The striking design features a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a rattlesnake. The image is said to reflect the struggle between the nation (the eagle) and the Spanish Empire (the snake). In 1 oz weights and higher, ten similar seals are positioned around the central seal, representing Mexico’s provinces. Above the seal, an inscription reads “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” A geometric Aztec scroll surrounds the image. About The Mexican Mint The National Mint of Mexico (also known as the Casa de Moneda de Mexico) was established in 1535 and remains the oldest mint in the Americas. In addition to circulation coins, the mint produces bullion coins, commemorative coins, and medals for Mexico and many other nations. These coins have become a popular mainstay among numismatists and other collectors. Today, the Mexican Mint is world-renowned as a state-of-the-art minting facility that combines rich tradition with modern technology to produce beautiful gold and silver coins. Shipping Each Silver Libertad ships in a protective flip in brilliant uncirculated condition as received from the mint. Multiples of 5 may arrive in plastic mint tubes.
